The surface of the Earth is a thin crust about 6 km/4 mi thick under the sea and 40 km/25 mi thick under the continents, under the crust liesthe mantles about 2900 km/1800 mi thick and with a temperature of1500-3000 ‘C/ 2700-5400'F, the outer core is liquid iron and mickel at 4000’C/7200 ‘F. The inner core is probably solid iron and nickel at about 5000’C/9000’F.
